We are currently looking for a dynamic and self-motivated senior estimator, possessing a solid business acumen and strong ability to identify labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents in the position of Senior Structural Estimator.

Position Location: Edmonton, AB

Key responsibilities will include:

The Senior Estimator is responsible for evaluating bid specifications and drawings to prepare high quality, consistently prepared and sufficiently accurate estimates which effectively support the Sales Department in the acquisition of new projects and can be successfully replicated in the execution phase of the project.

The ideal candidate will have:

  1. A minimum of 10 years of experience in the environment of steel fabrication and/or construction, estimating complex projects.
  2. Demonstrable record of estimating major high value fabrication, and construction projects including reviewing specifications, drawings and scope of works, identifying risks, performing material take-offs, performing labour build-ups, developing an over-all cost estimate, execution plan and technical and commercial clarifications. Experience must span the full cycle of an estimate.
  3. Strong knowledge of lump sum and unit rates for structural steel.
  4. Post-secondary degree or diploma in engineering, quantity surveying, business administration or PMP designation will be considered an asset.
  5. Knowledge of drafting software (i.e. Tekla, AutoCAD Solidworks or other equivalent systems).
  6. Knowledge in structural steel fabrication, connections, and erection practices.
  7. Knowledge of welding and manufacturing codes and standards is an asset (CSA W59, CSA W47.1, ASME, API, AWS).
  8. Ability to read and interpret general arrangements and fabrication drawings.
  9. A team player, who can interrelate and operate effectively with peers and other associates within a collegial, yet demanding, work environment.
  10. Ability to handle a variety of constituencies, juggle multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex environment with multiple priorities.
  11. Advanced knowledge of MS Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project).
  12. Highly Developed:
    a. Organizational skills and the ability to be flexible in managing changing priorities,
    b. Communication Skills – Both Written and Oral,
    c. Analytical and problem-solving skills,
    d. Strong attention to detail,
    e. Ability to consistently follow process,
    f. Negotiation Skills
